Michael Sheen was interviewed on ABC Radio National’s The Stage Show about his upcoming appearance in the Peter Shaffer play Amadeus at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, where he will be playing Antonio Salieri.
Michael speaks about how the production came about as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for the Sydney Opera House, and how the production will have a live orchestra and opera singers. He talks at length about Salieri’s journey and choices in the play, how Mozart’s serenade for woodwinds (Serenade No 10 for Winds, “Gran Partita”) brings him to tears, and how enjoyable and fulfilling the play is for an audience.
Also discussed are Port Talbot, how lucky he was to have the path into his career that he did, performing in the play Look Back in Anger by John Osborne, being taught received pronunciation at RADA and his later embracing of his Welshness, and finding balance in his career and doing things that matter to him.
